Mirjam van der Loo

Biography

Mirjam van der Loo is a singer with a remarkable 'grand voice'. The first outings of her singing brought her in a well-known Dutch television'road'show called 'Telekids' at the age of fourteen. After that she sang in the finale of the Soundmixshow (the predecessor of Idols) and toured with a dance-act in the discothecs of the Netherlands.

From 1992 untill 2004 she worked as a singer/fashion-model in several shows for several brands. Then, after playing some singing parts in a few theatreshows, and after marrying her husband and giving birth to her son Samuel in 2001, she came out with her first solo-concert, in the fall of 2002, M*Spirit, a funky spiritual concert, whereabout she states herself:

"M*Spirit is about three M's: Mother, Moon and Mirjam. The M for Mother is for all the mothers in the world: you can create. Use your strength as a mother, as a woman, and share it with everyone, the M for Moon is about the woman, the sensitive, the spiritual. And the M for Mirjam is about me personally, my way of living, of singing, of sharing my positive energy with you."

From this concert on she went on working as a singingteacher, private as well as in the Amsterdam Theatre Academy, as a singer in the Gospelchoir 'SALT' (from Michelle Davids), played a guestpart in the famous televisionshow 'Goede tijden slechte tijden,' and was a guest-co-host for radio 538.

Meanwhile she found the inspiration to start writing songs of her own. Het first song, 'One moment', was first recorded for the celebration of 25 years of Vluchtelingenwerk Nederland, a NGO for refugees in the Netherlands, later it has been used in a short commercial of Natuurmonumenten, an institution that lives to save the Nature.

In 2006 Mirjam went to Africa as a host for a television-documentary 'Journey of Equality', about children and their future dreams and hopes. She took back a sample of the Tanzanian children singing and recorded them as a bridge in 'One moment', that even now still is one of the strong testimonies of her first solo-album 'Moon' (2008): 'One moment can make a difference, one moment can save a child.'

While teaching, mannequining and singing for several companies and institutions (e.g. the opening of the World Press in 2007) in the Netherlands, Italy and Switserland, she finished her songs and started to record the album 'Moon', which was recently released in the fall of 2008.

This is Mirjam as a singer on her best. Her voice, her lyrics and music and her spiritual funky energy that can uplift the listener and share him in her positivity and comfort has all come together in this album-debut. It has been produced by her husband, Stijn van der Loo, together with Hans Bedeker and Daniel Wyatt, it has been played on by the very best musicians around in the Netherlands, like Cor Bakker (piano), Arie den Boer (drums), Bert Meulendijk (guitars), and recorded in the famous Wisseloord Studio's.
